What is counselling?

Counselling is a talking therapy. It gives you a quiet place to share your troubles or concerns without judgement. A safe place to be heard to explore your feelings and emotions. Counselling requires specific skills which is why it is different from talking with friends or family. It is non-directive and allows you full autonomy.

Who is it for?

Counselling is for any person looking to bring about change in their life, whether from an emotional or mental health position, or a challenge in relationships with family, loved ones or in a work environment. It could be simple  or complex, it may be relevant to the here and now or historical life experiences that are causing you stress. Whatever your current experience there will be a way forward for you, you just need to find one that suits you, one that you feel comfortable with.

What can I expect and how many session will I need?

The first time we talk either on the phone or in person, I will explain the process. This will give you the opportunity to ask as many questions as you want. It is common for people to feel anxious about sharing their lives with a stranger, but in time you will feel more comfortable. We work towards a shared agreement. It is not possible to say how many sessions you might need as every person will have their own unique life experiences, however as we work together over the weeks we can review to see how life is changing for you. It is important for you to realise that it is your right to withdraw from counselling at any time.
